Artwork for Jane Doe Inc’s program book cover of their Reimagine Manhood campaign, done in watercolor and ink.

ABOUT MARIE’S ILLUSTRATION:

“My inspiration behind this piece was to bring people together and represent a safe place where people could gather and simply be themselves around each other. On the back of each person’s T-shirt is a symbol, on the right-side figure is the white ribbon logo, a symbol used by those who come together to oppose violence against women and gender-based violence. On the left-side, is the American Sign Language (ASL) gesture for ‘love,’ in reference to those who unify through a common language when there may be barriers. Together, both figures extend their hands out to spell out the word ‘LOVE’ because I believe that there isn’t enough love going around for all of the different people in the world. I wanted this piece to represent love and kindness, to remind people to be kind and loving to each other, and to emphasize that we all can create safe spaces together.”
